Is there a way to hack an NTSC PS3 to play Japanese PS2 games?

It's becoming increasingly tiresome to switch between my PS2 (with SwapMagic) plugged with standard AV cables and my PS3 with runs 1080i HDMI. I was just wondering if there was a soft mod for this kind of thing.
