Is it really a bad thing to be a messy person?

I am clean, hygenic, but i am quite untidy when it comes to my room. I share a house with other girls at university and there are times when you can't see my floor for the amount of clothes or shoes! I am into fashion and am arty, does this explain my tidyness? And is it a bad thing to have a messy room? (I keep every other social room of the house tidy once im done with it eg cooking etc)
