Cancer and aries dating question..please read?

ok so I briefly dated a guy back in 2005 before he ended up going back to his ex.. bad marriage came out of and now he is pretty much a single father. We dated again last year I really liked him alot we connected emotionally and ually and I really just liked being around him. Well we got in a stupid argument and got heated and we just blew each other off. now 7 months later I contacted him. We went out a few times with our children and then this last weekend we went out. I spent the night. So my question is he is an aries and I am a cancer. He has been more quiet this time around. I can't seem to open him up like last year. I really still like this guy and I don't know what to do. I feel like he just doesn't say much to me and well me being a cancer can lead to impatience and anxiety and the last thing I want to do is annoy or bother him. So what should I do? I know cancer and aries are not the best match but my rising is in capricorn and I don't know what he is I'm thinking he has some water in there some where because he s pretty senstive. his bday is April 17th so it falls close to the aries/taurus cusp. He doesn't exactly fall under an aries all the time. So how to do this with an aries? Apparently there is some kind of interest there with me but I just don't know how to open him up again? Any advice on how to keep him around and interested?
